The Northborough Fire Department is one of the more progressive fire departments in the
area with respect to its emergency medical services (EMS) delivery. The department has
continually prided itself on being on the pro-active edge of technology. It was noted for
being one of the first services in the area to become defibrillator certified.
The
service is currently licensed to the paramedic level. Paramedics and
Intermediates have the ability to start IV's and intubate. Paramedics may
also administer several different pre-hospital medications. The
Department's EMT-Basics can utilize EPI-pens to combat
anaphylactic (allergic) reactions, use of medical anti-shock trousers (M.A.S.T.)
to perfuse vital organs with blood, in patients with severe traumatic
injuries as well as utilize defibrillators as earlier mentioned.
The
Department is comprised
of approximately 30 EMTs. All career personnel are required to be EMT certified. Many
career and call members have advanced levels of EMT certifications as well.
The department maintains two licensed in-service ambulances to provide emergency
medical assistance & transport to the community.
