Overview
The Department uses many different approaches to
provide for the safety of our citizens. By educating individuals of all ages as to the
basics of fire safety and prevention, the Department hopes to give the townspeople the
tools to both prevent fires and the knowledge to protect themselves should one occur. A
steady drop in both the incidence of fire and fire fatalities over the past twenty years
can be, among other factors, attributed to public education. The fundamentals of
fire safety are easy to learn and strait-forward. The department's challenge is to present
fire safety material in a manner that it becomes second nature so that in time of
emergency, behaviors become automatic.
'Fire Fighter Rob Theve' (Captain) coordinates the efforts of several
Department members to deliver
a wide variety of programs designed to reach all age groups. The cornerstone of public
education activities by the Department centers around the public school system, the
elementary schools in particular. In addition, the department offers presentations to
adult organizations and senior citizen groups. These programs range from oral and video
presentations to actual hands-on demonstrations that can be tailored to meet the needs of
any organization. The annual fire prevention fair showcases a wide variety of department
apparatus and equipment, as well as delivering the message of fire safety through several
demonstrations and fun activities.
