MUTUAL AID RESOURCES
Northborough Fire Department
MUTUAL AID
The N.F.D. has working Mutual Aid agreements with all
of it's surrounding communities. This helps us in obtaining manpower and equipment
resources, for those incidents that overwhelm our own resources. We are very
fortunate in having good working relationships with these departments in our time of need,
and they also utilize our resources when their systems need outside assistance.
In a progressive and innovative fashion the N.F.D. and it's surrounding
communities have also setup automatic joint responses to predetermined sites. These
sites include life-safety sites, as well as HAZMAT
sites throughout our town. In order to establish safer incidents at structure fires for
both departments, an automatic regional RIT (Rapid Intervention Team)
response agreement
has been established between the Northborough Fire Dept. and the Westborough Fire Dept..
This agreement provides for an automatic response of, and the establishment of, a
dedicated intervention team to help increase firefighter safety during their firefighting
activities. With limited resources available in both departments, innovative
development of
these types of Mutual Aid programs allows both communities to focus their resources to the
tasks required of them, without compromising firefighter safety.
Northborough is an active member of Massachusetts Fire District-14.
As a member it
participates in providing personnel to the district's emergency response units. Membership
in this district provides resources for all of the participating communities that would
not be fiscally responsible for any individual community to provide for itself.
Resource availability levels from this consortium range from providing a district wide
HAZMAT response unit/team, to maintaining a 'loaner' ambulance to be borrowed by
individual member departments so that community EMS coverage is not compromised when
repairs are needed for the department's ambulance.
