Grand Marshall Martha Michalewich

Please join the Northboro Rotary Club, the Applefest Committee and residents of the Town of Northboro in congratulating Martha Michalewich, the 2011 Applefest Grand Marshall.

Martha’s story begins 37 years ago, when she moved with her husband and young child to Northboro. Though she selected the town based on affordability and the strong reputation of the public schools, Michalewich soon discovered other benefits the community had to offer. “What we did not know when we came here was that the Northborough Community is warm, friendly and very giving,” she explained. Soon after moving, Michalewich embarked on her first year out of many of service in the local area. She attended the first meeting of the Northboro Junior Women’s Club over 3 decades ago, and went on to become on of the most influential members in club history.

Today, Michalewich is still an active participant both in the Junior Women’s Club and at Trinity Church. In honor of the Junior Women’s Club’s 25 anniversary a decade ago, club members honored Michalewich by introducing the Martha Michalewich Clubwoman of the Year Award, which goes to one woman from any Massachusetts club who partakes in outstanding service for her club and community.

Despite all the work she has done, Michalewich still believes that she has benefitted the most from her service. “When we moved here, I wanted to become more involved in the community so that I would get to know more about my new surroundings and make new friends...I did not work, and I wanted more in my life. Through my volunteer work, I have been afforded the opportunity to give of myself, and in doing so, get more in return than ever imagined.  It has given me the infinite possibilities of achievement that could not be accomplished by one.  And most importantly, it has forged friendships with people I may never have met, so strong and deep that I cannot imagine my life without them.”
